Decatur Class of 1978 members attend Troy memorial dedication

Several Decatur High School Class of 1978 classmates of Donna Parker Jacobs gathered in Troy recently for a sad occasion.

They met at Charles Henderson High School to dedicate a bench with a memorial marker to Jacobs' daughter.

Sarah Jacobs and a friend, Amy Belcher, both 14, died in an automobile accident in Troy on April 2, 2004.

Members of the teens' families, as well as their high-school sorority, "The 21 club," attended the memorial dedication.

Jacobs, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Parker of Decatur, is a dean at Troy State University.

Classmates in Troy for the dedication were Jeffrey Brown, Norwood Bryan, Joan Fourroux Daugherty, Susan Edmundson Conner, Kelley Johnson Hayes, Mary Margaret McKenzie Tweedy, and B.Y. Byers Teague, all of Decatur.

Other classmates attending included Patti Ordway McDonald of Montgomery, Marla Breeding Dean of Athens, Dianne Haney Matheson of Birmingham, Libby Sims Patrick of Atlanta, Terri Tennimon Handley of Birmingham, Leigh Shelton Cassady of Enterprise, Kay Phillips Griffin of Albermarle, N.C., and Edith Peebles Cratty of Omaha, Neb.

Afterward, the women in the class spent the weekend in Destin at adjacent condominiums belonging to Patrick and her parents, Bill and Betty Sims.
