Man: Ex-friend shot at me while driving

A Decatur man said a former friend threatened him and apparently shot at his car as he was driving down Shady Grove Lane Southwest on Monday night, police said.

The victim reported that he was dropping off a friend on 19th Avenue when one of the passengers in a passing truck shouted something at him.

The driver said the vehicle followed him down several streets before he heard what sounded like gunshots coming from the passenger side.

He said he stopped on Shady Grove Lane and a suspect allegedly ran up to car and said he going to kill him, at which point the victim drove off, police said.

The officer inspecting the vehicle saw no damage, Lt. Dennis Hughes of the Decatur Police Department said, and none of the three in the vehicle were injured.

The suspects in the case are juveniles, Hughes said.

Police arrest man in rape of girl, 13

Hartselle police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl outside the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Hartselle.

The victim said an unknown man forced her to have sexual intercourse with him inside his vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot Friday, said Hartselle police.

Investigators Amy Crouch and Alan McDearmond obtained two felony warrants for the arrest of Adan Avilla Rodriguez, of 1201 Dripping Springs Road Apartment B in Cullman.

Police arrested Rodriguez, 29, at his place of employment and charged him with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

The victim told police she had previous contact with the suspect, but did not know who he was.

Rodriguez awaited transfer to Morgan County Jail, where police said he will be held on $60,000 bond.

Police: Man turns self in for shooting

A Decatur man has turned himself in to police investigating a shooting at a party last week.

Police obtained a warrant charging Jarvis Deshawn Scott, 29, of 214 12th Avenue S.W., with second-degree assault after a man treated for gunshot wounds at Decatur General Hospital told police he was fired upon during a party at Scott's residence June 19, police said.

Derix Walker Jr., 29, of Decatur, was treated for injuries to his left leg and buttocks and released from the hospital.

Walker told Decatur police he was at the party, had a verbal confrontation with another man and then heard three to five gunshots and dropped to the ground.

Scott turned himself in to officers at the police department Monday and was released later that day from Morgan County Jail on $750 bond.

Man arrested for
alleged sex with teen

ATHENS — Limestone authorities have arrested an Elkmont man who allegedly had consensual sex with an underage girl, Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said.

Kyle Wayne Martinez, 20, of 23810 Norman Lane, allegedly was having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, McNatt said.

Authorities charged him with second-degree rape. He is out of the Limestone County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Search for missing Moulton boy, 17

Michael Trusty, 17, has been missing since Sunday, said his mother, Cindy Walker, a DAILY paper carrier who last saw her son after she finished her paper route Sunday morning.

Walker said a girlfriend said her son spent the night Sunday but that Trusty had been dropped off at his 435 Lawrence County 233 residence in Moulton the following day. Walker said she had not seen him at home Monday and that he did not say where he was going when he left home Sunday.

Trusty, 5 feet 11 inches tall with dark brown hair and blue eyes, is bipolar and suffers from attention hyperactivity deficit disorder, his mother said.

She said it is unlike him to disappear and that whenever he goes out without letting her know where he's going, he always returns home.

Local man charged in alleged sex abuse

ATHENS — An Elkmont man is facing a sex abuse charge for allegedly fondling a 13-year-old boy, an investigator said.

Limestone County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said the boy had clothes on when Gerald Edwin Rickrode, 47, of 21889 David Dr., allegedly rubbed the boy between the legs.

The boy is an acquaintance of Rickrode, McNatt said.

Rickrode is in the Limestone County Jail without bond set, charged with first-degree sex abuse.

Police arrest man for alleged theft

Police arrested a Decatur man Monday in connection with a theft of an undisclosed amount of cash from Food World, in which a simple cigarette purchase turned into a heist.

Mauris Laverne Thompson, 44, of 2225 Alabama 20 Lot 25, faces a charge of first-degree theft.

Police said a white male entered Food World at 1652 Beltline Road S.W. on Saturday and asked for cigarettes at the checkout counter.

He paid the clerk for the cigarettes, but when she opened the register to give him his change, he grabbed cash from the drawer and fled, police said.

He remained in Morgan County Jail on $1,500 bond.
