FALKVILLE — On his first day in office Monday, Mayor Jimmie Walker and the Falkville Town Council netted the town about $18,000 annual savings.

The council named the new mayor utilities manager with a minimum workload of 20 hours per week and an $18,000 per year salary without benefits.

Former Mayor Roy Coley, who resigned and moved to Key West, Fla., served full time as utilities superintendent at $43,000 per year.

Other appointments

In other appointments made after Town Attorney Larry Madison swore in Walker, the council promoted Eric Sawyer to utilities field supervisor at $16.21 per hour, a raise of $2 per hour, and former part-time employee Jeff Pike to full-time permanent employee at $8.50 per hour, a raise of $1.25 per hour, plus benefits.

Pike will divide his time between utilities and public works.

The council also appointed Matt Stiles as mayor pro-tem, a position Walker held.

Stiles said anyone interested in filling Walker's position on the council may pick up an application at Town Hall.
