Limestone looking into beating, robbery

ELKMONT — Limestone County authorities are investigating the beating and possible robbery of a man who sought help at Charlie's Truck Stop in Elkmont.

According to Sheriff's Department reports, the man entered the truck stop off Interstate 65 on Saturday at 2:40 p.m.

He said he was beaten and robbed. An ambulance took him to Athens-Limestone Hospital. Further information was not immediately available.

Driver in Friday wreck in critical condition

A driver injured Friday when his car left McEntire Lane and went into a back yard is in critical condition, a Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman said Saturday night that Jason Cummings, 28, of Decatur was in the neuro-intensive care unit.

According to trooper reports, Cummings was not wearing a seat belt. Cummings was trapped in the car until firefighters removed the roof. Firefighters said he had massive head injuries.
