Funds for Belle Mina research center|
BELLE MINA — Federal money is coming to a local research center to fund ways to use technology to make farming more feasible.
U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, will present the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center in Belle Mina with $604,000 on Monday. Cramer secured the funding in a congressional appropriations bill for fiscal 2005.
The funds will go toward an experiment with precision farming. That's where a global positioning system uses coordinates of a field and determines which areas need more nutrients and which areas need less.
