Tuscaloosa man pleads innocent in shooting death of stepdaughter|
TUSCALOOSA (AP) — A Tuscaloosa man pleaded innocent to capital murder charges in the shooting death of his 15-year-old stepdaughter, whose body was found in a bedroom closet.
James Lee Bester, 44, entered the plea Friday in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court.
The victim, Shannon Marie McGuire, was killed on the morning of Aug. 30, 2004. Authorities said Bester shot the Holt High School student in the head with a .38-caliber pistol.
Defense attorneys entered the pleas of innocent and innocent by reason of mental disease or defect — a step toward an insanity defense.
