The hunt for a man accused of running over a Decatur police officer ended at the library.
Decatur Detective Chris Jones said Birmingham police arrested John David Teague of Hartselle on Saturday.
Birmingham Lt. Louis Tribble said police arrested Teague after his pickup was spotted outside a Southside library.
Teague, who had been inside the library, did not resist arrest, Tribble said.
Jones said authorities were able to trace Teague through calls he made from a Birmingham pay telephone.
Teague was in the Decatur City Jail by Saturday night.
Police charged Teague with second-degree assault. Jones said the Chilton County sheriff's office also wants Teague on a warrant for first-degree theft.
The officer whom Teague allegedly ran over, Marty McCaghren, is recovering at home. Jones said she is bruised and sore.
Friday morning, McCaghren tried to detain Teague in the parking lot of Bud's Chevron, 3705 Spring Ave. S.W. Police said she was responding to a forged-check call.
Sgt. Steve Campbell said McCaghren tried to pull Teague from his pickup. Teague hit her several times and then, as he drove, pulled the officer about 10 feet on the pavement, Campbell said. The truck ran over her legs.
Decatur General Hospital treated and released McCaghren.
