Decatur man dies in motorcycle wreck

ATHENS — A collision between a pickup and a motorcycle killed a Decatur man Friday.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West said Larry Neal Almon, 59, a salesman of metal stamping machines, was apparently returning to Decatur from a plant in Elkmont on his motorcycle when the crash occurred.

It happened on Alabama 127 at McClung Lane shortly after 1:30 p.m.

"It looks like the truck was headed north and he was headed south, and the truck apparently turned in front of him, into his path," West said. "He struck the passenger's side rear wheel."

West said the impact knocked Almon's helmet off and threw him 10 to 15 feet into the middle of the roadway.

Almon died at the scene of head and chest injuries, West said.

The driver of the pickup, Anthony Gene Collins of Athens, was uninjured, police said.

Shelton Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

West said Almon had two children, a daughter, Amy Mohlere of Huntsville, and a son, Adam Almon of Decatur.
