Head-on collision claims 3 lives

HUNTSVILLE — Three men died Wednesday after a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer truck, a Huntsville police spokesman said.

Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the wreck occurred at 4:49 a.m. on Alabama 20 between the Greenbrier and Mooresville exits in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County.

Johnson said a car with four unknown Hispanic males was traveling west when the driver crossed the center turn lane and struck an 18-wheeler. The impact killed the car's driver. Two passengers in the car died at Huntsville Hospital, Johnson said.

The third passenger is in critical condition at the hospital.

The truck driver was not injured, Johnson said.

"None of them had adequate ID, so we are having a hard time identifying them," Johnson said.

Authorities had to reroute traffic for several hours, Johnson said, while responders worked the scene.
